The season of Advent began this weekend (30th November). Advent is about preparing and getting ready to celebrate the Christmas season. There are many preparations for Christmas under way already in Rathpeacon.
The Advent wreath reminds us of the four weeks of Advent. The three purple candles remind us that Advent is a time for penance, a time when we prepare spiritually for Christmas.
The pink candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent. This is ‘Gaudete Sunday’. Gaudete means hope and joy. Advent time should be a time filled with hope and joy.
The green foliage and the circular shape of the wreath remind us that God’s love is everlasting and unending.
We will be lighting Advent candles in our classes in the weeks ahead.
