Physical Education

Our school hall and the yard are in constant demand for PE lessons and activities. You’ll find galleries of photographs here showing a sample of the wide variety of PE lessons that go on daily in Rathpeacon. We always focus on having fun, being active, taking part and having a go!

Athletics

Our most recent athletic endeavour was the trials for the Cork City Sports. Every pupil from 1st to 6th Class walked up to our local GAA pitch, jogged warm up / cool down laps and gave their best effort in the sprint races! Well done to everyone for giving it a go and congratulations to those who made the team!

Of course we also do plenty of running for fun! Here are Third and Fourth Class running some very thematically appropriate ‘egg and spoon’ races just before Easter!

Games

We play plenty of games during our PE lessons, practising skills such as sending, receiving, throwing, kicking and passing. Younger classes play lots of mini-games, while senior classes play formal games and matches in many sports including – hurling, camogie, football, soccer, dodgeball and basketball. Matches and games during PE lessons always focus on getting involved, giving it a go and having fun!

Aquatics

Our trips to the swimming pool have been deferred this year due to Covid but we are already preparing ourselves for next year with classes at all levels of the school taking part in the PAWS programme. Classes also completed water safety lessons as part of SPHE.

Outdoor and Adventure Activities

We are all absolutely delighted with our new Active walkway. It has been great to explore and open up new corners of the school in a fun and enjoyable way!

Gymnastics

We are very fortunate to have a visiting, specialist coach for weekly gymnastics lessons. Every child from Junior Infants to Sixth Class takes part and learns new gymnastic skills during the school year.

As Sixth Class were finishing up with Ally, they took the opportunity to show off some of the skills they have learned over the last 8 years.

Dance

We definitely enjoyed our dance breaks this year – classes often used ‘Go Noodle’ as a resource. At Christmas we created our own dance video – The Twelve Days of Fitmas and at the moment, we are practicing new dance routines for and end of year performance! (Photos and videos coming soon!)
