The First Day

The First Day – next August

On the first day of school, 28th August, we encourage Junior Infants to attend from 9.45 – 12.00.  This late start is to avoid the large crowds in the yard which can be quite intimidating for young children.

When you come into the classroom, you will find your son/daughters name already on a table.  Encourage your child to sit down and begin the colouring page (also on the table).  It is important that you leave as soon as possible after this.

From the 1st September 2014 on, we will be lining up in the yard.

A School Day

Our Junior and Senior Infant day begins at 9.10am and ends at 1.50pm.

From Junior Infants, children cover all of the subjects in the curriculum – these are: Irish, English, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Music, Art, Drama, Physical Education and SPHE.  Children will also learn basic I.T. skills through the use of the interactive whiteboard and also through weekly visits to the Computer Room.

All of these subjects are taught by the class teacher.

Every child will benefit from the support of the school’s SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teachers through our delivery of the Aistear framework for Early Childhood Education and through the delivery of a variety of interventions throughout their time in Rathpeacon.

In Junior Infants, children will also benefit from specialist teachers who currently visit the school for Speech and Drama, GAA – Go Games and Gymnastics.
